“This month’s mix is for the real original breakbeat heads,” John Digweed tells Apple Music of this April 2026 set. “Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time digging through old hard drives, discovering long-lost live recordings and music folders containing tracks I haven’t heard for years. So this is a true breakbeat journey spanning more than 40 years!” Among his treasure trove are Jondi & Spesh’s “No Harm” and Cybotron’s “Clear,” which was, says Digweed, “one of the most important records in electronic music, blending electro, early techno, and hip-hop into one. Cybotron was Juan Atkins and Richard Davis, and Juan, of course, later became one of the founders of Detroit techno.” Listen out too, he says, to the sole new track in this mix: Thaddeus X’s 2025 song “My Life (Prototype Remix).” “This remix fitted in here perfectly, which just shows how futuristic and ahead of its time so much of this music was,” says Digweed. “Definitely a bit of a history lesson this month, and it still blows my mind how good so much of this music sounds almost 40 years later.”
