Prince was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. One of the best-selling artists of all time, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-born icon released a string of classic albums over five decades, beginning with 1978's For You and including Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, and Sign O' The Times, which was placed at No. 51 on Apple Music's 100 Best Albums list.
With his band The Revolution, he produced the No. 4 album on Apple Music's 100 Best Albums list—the blockbuster soundtrack to the autobiographical film Purple Rain, for which he received three Grammy Awards and the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score—as well as the follow-ups Around The World In A Day and Parade (Music from the Motion Picture Under the Cherry Moon).
Following Purple Rain, Prince starred in and directed the films Under the Cherry Moon, Graffiti Bridge, and Prince: Sign 'O' The Times. In 1991, he released Diamonds and Pearls with The New Power Generation, which was highlighted by the chart-topping smash Cream, as well as the title track and Gett Off.
Prince's lengthy list of iconic hits include When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret, Kiss, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Nothing Compares 2 U, and 7. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2024, eight years after his death at age 57.
