James Garner was an American film and television actor (1928-2014). He received the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year - Actor for his role in the 1957 film Sayonara. Garner subsequently appeared in the television series Maverick from 1957 to 1962 and later in The Rockford Files from 1974 to 1980, for which he received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1977. He also appeared in the television series 8 Simple Rules and the films The Notebook  with Ryan Gosling and The Ultimate Gift.
