American singer (1917–2001)

Rufus Thomas was an American singer (1917-2001). He began singing in the 1940s and signed with Stax Records in the early 1960s. Thomas wrote and performed Do the Funky Chicken. He released Walking the Dog with Carla Thomas, Do The Funky Penguin (Part 1), and the album Crown Prince of Dance. He appeared in the documentary Wattstax and the film Mystery Train.
