Misty Copeland

American ballet dancer

Misty Copeland is an American ballet dancer. She joined the American Ballet Theatre in 2000, was promoted to corps de ballet member in 2001, and soloist in 2007. In 2015, she became the first African-American woman to be made principal dancer of the company. Through her remarkable journey, Copeland has broken barriers; she was en pointe after only three months of study. She has shared her experiences through two autobiographical books and has appeared in the documentary A Ballerina’s Tale and the film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Misty Copeland also starred in the Apple Original Film Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special alongside Ariana Grande and Snoop Dogg.
