The singer takes a “look at the way the world is right now” on his sixth album. “How do I find that gray area in between positivity and negativity? Where’s that melancholy spot? That was my intention when I set out to make the album,” Adam Lambert tells Apple Music of ADAM, his sixth solo full-length. “I could do one of two things as a pop artist: I could either create full escapism and fantasy or like a big pat on the back to everybody or look at the way the world is right now.” Heavy on roaring electropop, the album finds the singer-songwriter powering through 12 tracks that range from the thunderous “EAT U ALIVE” (“I love making music that’s sort of a little bit aggressive—especially like sexually charged”) to the mournful and tender “AM I OK” (“I had a five-year relationship that ended. A week later, I’m in the studio writing, and that’s what it’s about”). Sex, vulnerability, anger, and occasionally depression course throughout Lambert’s effort. “The tone of society right now is complicated,” he says. “I wanted to sit in that and tell my stories in that world because that’s where we are.”
