When one of your most seminal DJ mixes comes to Apple Music for the first time—30 years on from its release—you’ve got to celebrate. And that’s exactly what John Digweed does in this DJ mix. “As many listeners will know, this month [September 2026] we’re celebrating 30 years of the original Northern Exposure album with a brand-new remastered redux edition,” he tells Apple Music of his pivotal 1996 release alongside fellow legendary DJ Sasha. “Thirty years on, I’m still so passionate about this music, and Northern Exposure’s DNA has always been at the heart of the Compiled & Mixed series.” As always, Digweed has a few standout tracks he wants you to listen out for here—including Lost Astronaut’s “Black Abyss,” a cut the DJ and producer likes so much he’s included it twice (“the vocal on this one is really special, bringing out the emotion in the music,” he says). Then there’s Blake Jarrell’s remix of Aaliyah’s “One in a Million,” which “blew me away,” says Digweed. “The original came out around the same time as Northern Exposure, which makes hearing those two very different musical worlds come together 30 years later feel especially special.” He’s keen to draw your attention, too, to the closer here: Anuhe and Butane’s “Little Helper 440-3,” a song that brings everything “bang up to date with a modern twist on the sound we fell in love with all those years ago,” says Digweed. “It’s deep and moody, and it sounds so good whenever I’ve played it on the dance floor.”
