He played John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and appeared in films such as 22 Jump Street alongside Channing Tatum, Cowboys & Aliens with Harrison Ford, and Night Swim. Russell has also starred in the Apple Original series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and the series Under the Banner of Heaven.
