

Richard Rodgers
American composer
Richard Rodgers was an American composer. He worked with Lorenz Hart on over two dozen musicals, including Pal Joey. He also worked with Oscar Hammerstein II as part of the theater-writing duo Rodgers and Hammerstein. Rodgers wrote the musicals Carousel, Oklahoma!, The King and I, and South Pacific. He also wrote the music for The Sound of Music. With Hammerstein, he also received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for It Might as Well Be Spring from the 1945 film State Fair. He also received a Primetime Emmy Award for his music for The Valiant Years.
