Charlie Chaplin was a British comic actor and filmmaker (1889-1977). Chaplin, considered one of the film industry's most significant figures, is known for his screen persona the Tramp. He co-founded United Artists, a production company, in order to have complete control over his filmmaking. Chaplin produced, wrote, directed, and starred in films such as A Dog's Life, City Lights, Modern Times, The Circus, The Gold Rush, The Kid and The Great Dictator. He also wrote the music for most of his films. Chaplin received an Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score for Limelight.
