She became the first Mexican actress to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Frida Kahlo in the 2002 film Frida. She has also appeared in films such as Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Grown Ups, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, and House of Gucci.
