Revenge and vindication are the themes of Black Veil Brides’ seventh album. Opening soliloquy “Invocation to the Muse” sets the dramatic tone with a church organ and paean to vengeance. It segues into the incongruous calliope that kicks off “Vindicate,” a song that sees Andy Biersack delivering a Broadway-style chorus over detuned nu metal. Advance singles “Certainty” and “Bleeders” serve up the kind of anthemic, radio-ready modern rock that BVB has built their considerable success upon. “Revenger” thrives on a slick groove-metal riff that could easily be an homage to the song’s guest vocalist, Robb Flynn of Machine Head. Lastly, piano-driven micro-ballad “Eschaton” closes the album with a plaintive denouement.
