American country musician

David Allan Coe is an American country musician. He released the albums Human Emotions, Longhaired Redneck, and Once Upon a Rhyme. Coe scored hits on his own and wrote songs that were smashes for other artists, including Tanya Tucker and Johnny Paycheck. His most popular songs include You Never Even Called Me by My Name, The Ride, and If This Is Just a Game. Coe is recognized as a key figure in the 1970s Outlaw Country scene alongside Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. He appeared in the documentary Heartworn Highways and the film The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James with Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.
