Fred Astaire was an American actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, and television presenter. He revolutionised musical theatre with his sister Adele Astaire in a Vaudeville and Broadway act, and was a key figure in transforming the Broadway musical. He had a long dance partnership with Ginger Rogers.
Astaire won Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture for The Towering Inferno in 1974 and Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Three Little Words in 1950. He also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for An Evening with Fred Astaire in 1959. He also received an Academy Honorary Award.
Astaire also starred in films such as Swing Time, Funny Face, and Shall We Dance.
